COLUMBUS, Ohio — Last September, Ohio State football braced for its first encounter with Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day had once tried to recruit the left-hander out of Tampa, Florida. Penix first committed to Tennessee, then wound up with the rebuilding Hoosiers. He earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after the 2019 season opener and seemed poised for a breakout season. Then injuries hit, including the right sternoclavicular joint injury in his shoulder that ended his season. The Buckeyes were supposed to face another dynamic young Big Ten quarterback last week in Maryland’s Taulia Tagovailoa. That game was canceled due to the Terrapins’ coronavirus outbreak.
