
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ask Michael Penix if Ohio State brought the pressure last Saturday, and the Indiana quarterback probably won’t answer with numbers. According to Pro Football Focus, the Buckeyes’ 27 pressures of Penix tied for the most by any team in a game this season. Relying mostly on its four-man front, augmented by the occasional blitz, Ohio State compressed the pocket on the vast majority of Penix’s 51 pass attempts. Whether that pressure made an impact is a different question. Ohio State sacked Penix only twice. He routinely stood tall in the pocket and fired strikes downfield en route to 491 yards. The 305 yards that came under pressure are the most recorded by Pro Football Focus, beating out two 2016 games by Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech.
