College Football Playoff committee giving Ohio State an opportunity to prove its ranking correct


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football fans should know better than to take anything for granted after the past week. However, the College Football Playoff committee gave some indication Tuesday night that the Buckeyes’ postseason scenario may not be as precarious as some feared. The Buckeyes remained No. 4, even though their game against Illinois was canceled and the teams immediately trailing them, Texas A&M and Florida, both picked up victories. Ohio State has played half as many games as the teams ahead of them — No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 3 Clemson — have wins. Yet the committee remains sufficiently impressed by Justin Fields and the rest of the Buckeyes’ offensive weapons. Remember that part about not taking anything for granted, though.
