
The biggest headlines from Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff rankings show had nothing to do with the order of the teams in this week’s Top 4. Instead, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit created controversy for suggesting that 2-4 Michigan might “opt out” of playing undefeated Ohio State on Dec. 12, using COVID-19 as an excuse. It’s worth noting that Herbstreit is a former Buckeyes quarterback. “I still think Michigan waves the white flag, potentially avoids playing Ohio State next week, and then they’ll potentially get a game on the 19th,” Herbstreit said. “Michigan could opt out, basically, of that game, and keep Ohio State out of six games to qualify for the Big Ten championship.
