Ohio State holds its spot in new College Football Playoff rankings as schedule remains in flux


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s short-handed victory at Michigan State apparently reinforced what the College Football Playoff selection committee already thought of the Buckeyes. Ohio State remained No. 4 in the new CFP rankings released Tuesday night. The three teams above the Buckeyes also did not change: No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 3 Clemson. Texas A&M remained No. 5 and Florida No. 6 Cincinnati. Iowa State jumped two spots to No. 7, bumping Cincinnati to No. 8. Ohio State’s No. 4 spot seemed more precarious last week since the Buckeyes did not play the previous weekend. Their game at Illinois was canceled due to OSU’s increased coronavirus cases. Iowa athletic director and CFP selection committee chair Gary Barta said last week there were discussions as to whether A&M should move ahead of the Buckeyes. Ohio State’s position was not helped by Indiana’s win at Wisconsin.…
