Ohio State football will not play Saturday; Next game is Big Ten championship against Northwestern


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Regardless of the Big Ten Conference’s decision to waive its minimum-games requirement for championship game eligibility, Ohio State football still wanted a game for this weekend. A team spokesman confirmed to cleveland.com that will not happen. The Buckeyes will not play Saturday, and their next game will be against Northwestern in the Big Ten championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Dec. 19. When the Big Ten eliminated that rule, it allowed a 5-0 Ohio State team to advance to the championship game. Previously, six games were required. However, Ohio State wanted another game to further enhance its College Football Playoff resume. The Buckeyes have been No. 4 in each of three reveals of the CFP rankings.
