
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s potential doomsday scenario for the College Football Playoff was officially kicked aside Saturday night. Defending national champion LSU emerged from a week of turmoil to upset No. 6 Florida 37-34. Cade York’s school-record 57-yard field goal with 23 seconds left gave the Tigers the lead. Florida’s Evan McPherson missed a 51-yarder as time expired. The loss was the second this season for Florida. As such, it likely knocked the Gators from playoff contention. No two-loss team has made the playoff in its six-year history. Had a one-loss Florida team defeated Alabama in the SEC championship game, it created a potentially tough scenario for the selection committee. Longtime No. 1 Alabama would likely stay in the top four. Clemson and Notre Dame, with one loss each against the other, would have strong cases for top-four spots.
