COLUMBUS, Ohio — On paper, Ohio State football’s 2021 signing class met a lofty goal of finding high-end talent to meet positional needs. The Buckeyes needed running backs, so they signed arguably the best tandem in the country. They wanted more competition and depth at quarterback, so they brought in another five-star prospect. They prioritized the secondary and the offensive line and found potentially elite prospects there. One commitment caught Ryan Day so by surprise in the moment that he “almost fell to the floor.” Day discussed all of those topics and the Buckeyes’ preparations for the Big Ten championship game against Northwestern during a Wednesday video conference. Among the highlights: Day said the Ohio players in this class — led by Pickerington North defensive end Jack Sawyer — set the foundation.
