
COLUMBUS, Ohio — As with every other Ohio State game this season, I watched Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game between the Buckeyes and Northwestern from my basement while Nathan Baird and Stephen Means covered it live on the scene. I’ll take you through the game, a “mature” writer in a weird year watching the Buckeyes chase another conference title and another playoff spot. Three hours before kickoff: Illinois announces Bret Bielema as its new coach. I’ve wanted Bielema back in the Big Ten since he left Wisconsin at the end of the 2012 season. He was a bad fit and a big failure at Arkansas, but he’s perfect for the Big Ten West, because he’s a good coach and a better villain. He annoys OSU fans like crazy, and that’s fun. The problem is Illinois isn’t scheduled to play Ohio State again until the second week of the 2024 season…
