Zach Hoover replaces Drue Chrisman as Ohio State football’s punter in the Big Ten Championship


INDIANAPOLIS — Ohio State football’s punter Drue Chrisman did not play in the Big Ten Championship and revealed that it was because of a positive coronavirus test. That left the Buckeyes to rely on walk-on Zach Hoover, a Toledo native who’s never taken a snap in a game. The senior joined the team in 2018 after redshirting for a year at Iowa State. He attended Toledo Central Catholic High School where he was a two-time All-Ohio selection and averaged 45 yards per punt as a senior. He saw his first action as a Buckeye in the first for Ohio State’s second series of the game for a 41-yard punt. Big Ten rules state that any player who tests positive must sit for 21 days so there’s a chance Ohio State could be without Chrisman in a potential College Football Playoff semifinal game on Jan. 1.
