Ohio State football facing an extra playoff opponent in 2020 — its uncertain day-to-day roster


COLUMBUS, Ohio — From Ohio State football’s season opener through Nov. 21 — a span of 28 days — its starting offensive line played four games together. From the win over Indiana on Nov. 21 through last Friday — a span of 27 days — the Buckeyes’ line did not play together once. Three starters missed the game at Michigan State due to coronavirus protocols. Other games were canceled due to COVID-19 outbreaks. For a couple of weeks the affected linemen could not even practice, work out or meet in person with their position group. Which makes what Ohio State did against Northwestern in last Saturday’s Big Ten championship game against Northwestern even more impressive. While 22 players were unavailable and did not make the trip, the offensive line reunited.
