As Ohio State football seeks its elusive best performance, Clemson is peaking at the right time


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football struggled to find a rhythm over the past six weeks due to game cancellations and the roster impact of coronavirus cases. The Buckeyes’ College Football Playoff semifinal opponent, on the other hand, surged into this Sugar Bowl matchup. Clemson needed to avenge a regular-season loss to Notre Dame in the ACC championship to stay in the playoff conversation. It did so emphatically with a 34-10 victory. The Tigers led 24-3 at halftime. The more than doubled the Fighting Irish up on yards (541-263). They limited the same offense that scored 47 points in the teams’ earlier double-overtime matchup to 44 rushing yards and a 3 of 12 performance on third down.
