The Buckeyes made themselves a contender for one of the country’s top class of 2022 safety prospects in September when they extended a scholarship offer to Altoona (Iowa) safety Xavier Nwankpa. At that time Nwankpa told Bucknuts he was being recruited by and talking to Ohio State coaches Ryan Day and Matt Barnes. Kerry Coombs and Mark Pantoni have also been very involved. And the contact has continued. “Yeah once or twice a week,” Nwankpa said in late November when asked if he and the Buckeyes are staying in contact. Nwankpa, who also is in contact with some of the Buckeye commitments, most notably C.J.
