Ohio State’s Justin Fields updates his health status for the national championship game vs. Alabama


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields said he felt better than expected when he woke up the morning after the Sugar Bowl. Perhaps the endorphins were still pumping from the Buckeyes’ 49-28 victory over Clemson the night before. Fields was also unpleasantly surprised that some of the pain from the hits he took in that game started coming back a couple of days later. As far as what that pain means for the College Football Playoff national championship game against Alabama, Fields simply said: “I’ll be good come Monday night.” That may also means he hopes he is better Monday night than he was on Thursday. “I haven’t thought about how the injury is going to affect how I’m going to play,” Fields said. “I’ll get as much treatment as possible and get my body right to perform at the right level on Monday night.” • Clemson bruised…
