COLUMBUS, Ohio — It took Ryan Day 13 games to get Ohio State back into College Football Playoff as head coach, then another seven to get to the National Championship Game. In two seasons, Day has solidified the Buckeyes as one of the top three programs in the country while looking to repeat the trends of OSU head coaches before him. Jim Tressel won a national title in Year Two when he beat Miami in the BCS in 2022. Urban Meyer technically won in Year Three, but it was the second year the Buckeyes were bowl eligible in his era. Both championships were historic moments for the program. Tressel’s ended a 34-year drought for Ohio State, while Meyer’s was the first champion of the playoff era in a season where OSU was the No. 4 seed and had to go through the SEC to do it.
