MIAMI GARDENS, Florida — Ohio State finished a distant runner-up to Alabama in the College Football Playoff national championship game, and in the final college rankings. Alabama took the top spot in the Associated Press Top 25 with its 52-24 pummeling of the Buckeyes. Ohio State finished No. 2 — its highest position of the season. The Buckeyes finished with 1,463 vote points, ahead of No. 3 Clemson (1,378), No. 4 Texas A&M (1,324) and No. 5 Notre Dame (1,279). Northwestern, which Ohio State defeated 22-10 in the Big Ten championship game, jumped up five spots to No. 10. Indiana fell five spots to No. 12 after its Outback Bowl loss to Ole Miss.
