MIAMI GARDENS, Florida — By now, Ohio State football is accustomed to winning its biggest games without an optimal two-deep depth chart. Such will be the case again in Monday’s College Football Playoff national championship. The Buckeyes will most notably be without defensive tackle Tommy Togiai and defensive end Tyreke Smith. Similar absences did not prevent Ohio State from crushing Michigan State 52-12, or rallying past Northwestern 22-10 in the Big Ten championship game, or flattening Clemson 49-28 in the Sugar Bowl playoff semifinal. Alabama, though, presents an entirely different challenge. The Crimson Tide rank sixth nationally in total offense and second ins scoring offense.
