Michigan hockey surges past Ohio State with 3-goal third


ANN ARBOR – Last Saturday against Michigan State, Michigan’s hockey team scored a go-ahead goal in the third period but blew the lead late in a 3-2 loss. This time the Wolverines hung on. Freshman forward Brendan Brisson, a 2020 first-round pick of the Vegas Golden Knights, gave Michigan a 2-1 lead with 9 minutes, 9 seconds remaining in Friday’s game against Ohio State. The Wolverines added two more goals in the final 7 minutes, including a late empty-netter, for a 4-1 victory at Yost Ice Arena. The Buckeyes (4-8-1, 4-7-0-0-1) tied the game at one on a controversial power-play goal at the 3:51 mark of the third. OSU appeared to be offsides when entering the zone and Michigan challenged the play, but the call on the ice – a goal – stood.
