Ohio State basketball shows off its ceiling in statement road win over Illinois: Buckeye Take


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State basketball traveled to Champaign looking to make a statement against one of the better teams in the Big Ten and left with an 87-81 win over Illinois. The Buckeyes took a 42-28 lead into halftime and continued to build on it in the second half behind E.J. Liddell, who seems to relish the chance to play against his home school. The 71-63 win over the Illini last season served almost as the coming-out party for the freshman from Belleville, Ill., as he went for 17 points and 11 rebounds. His performance offered a glimpse at what his future could look like, even grabbing the attention of Ryan Day. In Round 2 on the road, he featured his three-level scoring ability.
