COLUMBUS, Ohio — Chase Young set a new standard for pass rushers at Ohio State, then kept alive the program’s tradition of rookie success in the NFL. Pro Football Weekly and the Pro Football Writers of America named Young the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year on Tuesday. He becomes the fourth former Buckeye to win the award in the past five years, following Joey Bosa (2016), Marshon Lattimore (2017) and Nick Bosa (2019). Young, the No. 2 overall pick in last April’s NFL Draft by the Washington Football Team, made an immediate NFL impact. He was voted the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December and by the end of his rookie season had been named a team captain.
