Predicting Ohio State football’s defensive depth chart for 2021


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State entered 2020 with the knowledge that its defense did not need to be great to win a championship, it merely had to be good enough. Considering all of the talent the Buckeyes return on offense — some of it coming by surprise — does the same concept hold true for 2021? Ohio State finished 59th in total defense in 2020, and 77th in yards allowed per play. The main culprit was a pass defense that ranked 122nd in yards allowed per game and 87th in opposing quarterback efficiency rating. There are reasons to believe the Buckeyes may be equally strong at stopping the run this fall as they were last season. The pass rush and pass defense, though, both have something to prove.
