Former Ohio State football player Chase Young named Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Chase Young has added himself to a growing list of former Ohio State football players to have impressive NFL debuts after winning the Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Young joined a list that includes Joey Bosa (2016), Marshon Lattimore (2017) and most recently Nick Bosa (2020) as former Buckeyes to win the award. Following a junior season in Columbus that saw him become a Heisman Trophy finalist as a defensive player with an OSU-record 16.5 sacks, Young was taken by the Washington Football Team with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft. It was the second year in a row an OSU defensive end was the first defensive player taken after Nick Bosa went to the San Francisco 49ers the previous year.
