Women’s hockey: Gophers’ fast start doesn’t hold in 3-2 loss to Ohio State

Minnesota’s nightmare run of eight games against top-ranked Wisconsin and third-ranked Ohio State finally came to an end Saturday at Ridder Arena. In the final analysis, it didn’t go well. The Buckeyes used three second-period goals to overcome a two-goal deficit, then held on for a 3-2 victory for a weekend sweep. The loss dropped Minnesota to 2-6 on a long, difficult part of the schedule, made possible by a combination of pandemic postponements and the WCHA’s conference-only schedule this season. It will no doubt be referenced by the NCAA tournament Selection Committee should the Gophers not win the league’s automatic bid. “That’s why this weekend was such a disappointment to not come away with at least one,” coach Brad Frost said.
