COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State laps the rest of the Big Ten Conference in acquiring five-star recruiting talent. The Buckeyes project to have 14 five-stars on their roster this fall — mostly due to recent recruiting success at wide receiver and on the offensive and defensive lines. By comparison, that’s the same number of five-stars signed by the rest of the Big Ten from 2017 until now. Yet somewhat ironically, Ohio State’s success in 2021 may be built on a foundation of players whose commitments did not create national headlines at the time. As demonstrated on Wednesday’s edition of Buckeye Talk, OSU has won by both maximizing some no-doubt blue chips and developing its lower-ranked prospects.
