Ohio State Buckeyes: Football activities paused following COVID-19 positives


Mar. 9—Ohio State football has paused all team-related activities after a rise in positive COVID-19 tests. The department of athletics made that announcement Tuesday morning following a round of PCR test results from Monday. The move was described as a product of a joint decision by Ohio State director of athletics Gene Smith and team physician Dr. Jim Borchers. “Our decisions on the welfare of our student-athletes, staff members and those coming to our campus, and our determination as to when we will reopen and resume activities, will continue to be guided by our medical staff,” Smith said in a statement. The pause comes almost exactly a year after the announcement the 2020 spring game would be canceled, an early harbinger of things to come as the coronavirus pandemic ground sports to a halt for months.
