Michigan hockey blanks Ohio State to advance to Big Ten semis


Michigan and Ohio State never had a chance to face off in the Big Ten hockey tournament last year as the season was canceled just before their semifinal matchup. This year, they opened the tournament against each other, with the third-seeded Wolverines (14-9-1) skating downing the sixth-seeded Buckeyes 4-0 Sunday in a quarterfinal matchup in South Bend, Indiana. Each team features a much different looking lineup in 2020-21, and it was Michigan’s talented freshman class once again leading the way Sunday. Forward Brendan Brisson, a 2020 first-round pick of the Vegas Golden Knights, scored a power-play goal on a one-timer from the point late in the first period for a 1-0 lead, while forward Kent Johnson, a projected top-15 pick in 2021, set up the sixth-ranked Wolverines’ next goal.
