How a central Pa. wrestler went from off the radar to earning a spot at Ohio State


CLOSE Here’s a look at some highlights from Session I of the PIAA Class 2A wrestling championships in Hershey. Pocono Record Hogan Swenski understands how surprising it seems.  As he put it, he had “almost zero accomplishments” in wrestling entering his senior season.  Like many student-athletes during the pandemic, he began emailing college coaches at the beginning of the school year, hoping a few would give him an opportunity.  The Bermudian Springs heavyweight ended up getting one from a national powerhouse.  Swenski accepted a preferred walk-on spot at Ohio State last week, choosing the Buckeyes over partial scholarships from smaller Division I schools. Ohio State finished ninth at this year’s national championships after earning second-place finishes the previous three tournaments.
