Ohio State basketball assistant Terry Johnson to join Purdue’s coaching staff


COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State basketball program has lost its first assistant coach in two years as Terry Johnson is headed to Purdue. Johnson has been with the Buckeyes for the entire Chris Holtmann era serving as the team’s defensive coordinator. He before that he spent 10 years at Butler working under current Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens from 2007-13, Brandon Miller in 2013-14 and Holtmann from 2014-17. By joining Matt Painter’s staff with the Boilermakers, Johnson returns to the state of Indiana where he’s spent all of eight of the 24 years he’s been coaching. During his tenure, OSU went 87-44 (46–32 Big Ten) while reaching the NCAA Tournament in every season. His defenses have ranked inside the top 25 in adjusted defensive efficiency three times.
