THE Ohio State and THE Marc Jacobs end their dispute


Buckeyes refer to their school as “The Ohio State” while Jacobs uses the same three-letter word on some of his handbags and textiles. The unlikely competition between the two entities began in 2019 when the Columbus, Ohio-based university tried to trademark its all capital “THE” for merchandising related to the school. Jacobs brand had reportedly struck first, trying to claim the most commonly used word in the English language as its own.
