Coombs on Buckeyes’ defensive strategy: ‘Attack the offense in what they do best’

Ohio State’s defense has prided itself on stopping the run for many years. Even in 2020 when OSU struggled against the pass, the Buckeyes were the sixth-best rushing defense in the country. However, with the game becoming more and more of a passing-oriented contest, might the Buckeyes reassess their philosophy? That is what OSU defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs was asked on a Zoom call with reporters. He was also asked specifically if the Buckeyes might have more defensive backs on the field and less linebackers than usual in 2021. “I think just talking in generalities, we want to get our best players on the field,” Coombs said. “And so, we had a core of really good linebackers last year.
