In modern college football, the top teams in the country determine whether a season was successful or not based on if that team contends for the national championship. While this is not how success used to be measured, the invention of the BCS and then the College Football Playoff after it changed the landscape of the sport. Over the last two seasons, Ohio State has been successful. Going undefeated in the regular season and winning a third and fourth consecutive Big Ten title was enough to see the Buckeyes in the Playoff in each of the first two years under head coach Ryan Day.
