
Nebraska wasn’t the only Big Ten football program that considered going rogue in 2020. After the Big Ten canceled the football season last fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohio State was apparently willing to go it alone, too. That’s according to a newly released set of communications released on Wednesday night by the school in response to records requests, according to the Associated Press. The morning after the Big Ten canceled the 2021 football season on Aug. 11, OSU President Kristina Johnson texted athletic director Gene Smith to ask if the Buckeyes could “go independent” in the 2020 season. Smith replied: “I am trying to understand our contracts and if we can play independent this year.
