
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State cornerback Tyreke Johnson announced Sunday he will stay within the Big Ten Conference by transferring to Nebraska. Similar mid-summer announcements from outgoing Buckeyes could be more common in the years ahead. Big Ten undergrads can now transfer within the conference without sitting out a year. The old rule requiring a “year in residency” was tossed out last December. Ohio State can expect to play against Johnson when it visits Lincoln on Nov. 6. He will have at least two seasons to play with Nebraska — possibly three considering the 2020 season did not count towards’ any players’ eligibility. Johnson left the Buckeyes because, after arriving as a five-star prospect out of Jacksonville, Florida, in 2018, he never carved out a role on the two deep.
