Few teams have done as well at the whole “homegrown” thing as Ohio State the last decade. Of the 10 high school players who were ranked as five-star talents since Urban Meyer was hired by the Buckeyes following the 2011 season, all but two wound up at Ohio State. That was until 2023 five-star defensive end Brenan Vernon chose the Irish over the Buckeyes, committing late in June. Is that a the start of something new or just a chance occurrence?
