Notre Dame taking dead-aim at Ohio State targets

Few teams have done as well at the whole “homegrown” thing as Ohio State the last decade. Of the 10 high school players who were ranked as five-star talents since Urban Meyer was hired by the Buckeyes following the 2011 season, all but two wound up at Ohio State. That was until 2023 five-star defensive end Brenan Vernon chose the Irish over the Buckeyes, committing late in June. Is that a the start of something new or just a chance occurrence? Marcus Freeman, a former Ohio State star-linebacker and current Notre Dame defensive coordinator, doesn’t appear to be stopping there, nor does the rest of Brian Kelly’s Fighting Irish staff.
