
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Only once in the past 30 years has Ohio State football played a season without a player earning first team All-American status at the end. That lone exception came after 2011 — an outlier season in every way due to the ramifications of the Jim Tressell/Tattoogate episode. The expectation is at least one player, and usually more, will add a tree to Buckeye Grove each season. Multiple Buckeyes have been named All-America on major lists in every year but two since 2000. One position that looms as an exception, though, is wide receiver. Ohio State has not had an All-American receiver since David Boston in 1998. (Ted Ginn, Jr.’s 2006 recognition came as a return man.)
