
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The highest-ranked linebacker on Ohio State football’s roster did not practice with the first or second string when preseason practice opened Wednesday. Of course, there are technicalities in play with USC transfer Palaie Gaoteote’s status. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said it might be another week before OSU learns whether Gaoteote will receive an eligibility waiver from the NCAA. The No. 15 overall prospect in the 2018 class and a multi-year starter for the Trojans practiced Wednesday, but not at the top of the depth chart. “It puts us in a pinch,” Day said. “So we can’t we can’t throw him in really with the 1s or the 2s.
