Kyle McCord loses black stripe as Ohio State football potentially nears quarterback decision


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kyle McCord lost his black stripe on Thursday, but can he still win Ohio State football’s starting quarterback job? McCord’s black stripe was removed after the Buckeyes’ eighth practice of the preseason. He is the seventh freshman to go through that ceremony dating back to the early entrants in the spring. The timing is notable because Ohio State could be nearing a decision on who among McCord, C.J. Stroud or Jack Miller starts the season opener at Minnesota on Sept. 2. “It’s a blessing to be here and be part of the brotherhood,” McCord said in a video released by OSU. “Shotout to the defense for pushing me every single day, offensive line for protecting me, Zone 6 (receivers) doing your thing and Tote Nation (running backs) helping me out.” Stroud and Miller lost their black stripes three days prior to last season’s opener.
