
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Interesting thing about Ohio State football’s tight end room this season: None had ever played the position before they got to Columbus. To be fair, Joe Royer and Jeremy Ruckert were classified as such coming out of high school. Ruckert was the No. 37 player in the 2018 class, while Royer was the No. 413 player in the 2020 class. They at least knew they’d be tight ends at the college level but didn’t have any responsibilities that fall under that classification as prep stars. “I was flexed out the whole time,” Royer said. “I was a wide receiver that was listed at tight end. I didn’t do any end-line blocking.” Ruckert’s first OSU practice was the first time he’d ever put his hand in the dirt.
