
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s quarterback competition is not over, but C.J. Stroud’s lead in the three-way battle has never been more apparent. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day acknowledged the redshirt freshman has begun to separate himself, two days after the first scrimmage of the preseason. Stroud has been competing against redshirt freshman Jack Miller and true freshman Kyle McCord to start the season opener against Minnesota on Sept. 2. Day attributed Stroud’s lead to “a body of work.” He said the reps in the quarterback room would also begin to separate “a little bit” in Stroud’s favor. Previously, he said all three competitors were balancing reps in preseason camp. “Every day he’s been competing, he’s been taking care of the football, he’s making good decisions, he’s been a leader,” Day said.
