Has Ohio State football seen its last great linebacker worthy of a spot on Mount Buckmore?


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football has arguably turned out more generational players as linebacker than any other position. Credit the underrated Randy Grandishar for really kicking off that trend in the early 70s. He passed the torch to Tom Cousineau, which led to Chris Spielman, Andy Katzenmoyer, A.J. Hawk, James Laurinaitis and Ryan Shazier. Buckeye Talk wrapped up its position-by-position Mount Buckmores with the linebackers on Friday. At some other positions, the No. 4 players on the list seemed like placeholders. They were accomplished, charismatic, nationally recognized talents who nevertheless didn’t quite feel like they cleared our lofty standards with room to spare. At linebacker, leaving off any three of those players made us a bit queasy. You can listen to Friday’s episode and debate along with us, likely cursing us when we pass on one of those no-brainers.
