COLUMBUS, Ohio — The best way to describe the first half of Ohio State football’s eventual 35-28 loss to Oregon is with one word: Conservative. Conservative play calls on offense and defense. Conservative decision-making by the quarterback. The Buckeye led in total yards after 30 minutes, but 62 of those came on the last drive that was never getting anywhere, given that there were only 34 seconds left when they got the ball. As a result, they trailed 14-7 as the Ducks took advantage of a defense that looked out of sorts and an offense unwilling to assert its dominance. In its last five games dating back to the 2020 Big Ten Championship, the 49-28 win over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl is the only time OSU wasn’t trailing at halftime.
