Ohio State football needs to find its best defensive players quickly before it costs the Buckeyes another loss: Stephen Means’ observations


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three observations from Ohio State football’s 35-28 loss to Oregon in its home opener on Saturday. Defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs said all the right things in his postgame press conference. He rightfully took the blame for the loss as the defensive coordinator and took all the heat off the players. The fact that he even spoke after the game was the right move, especially after it didn’t look like any coach other than Ryan Day would do so, putting more of the weight on the players. But he came to face the music. “My response is I’m responsible,” Coombs said. “That’s my job. We have to play better. When I say that, I’m not blaming the players.
