Three Ohio State football defensive players lose black stripes as Buckeyes seek new contributors


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football is looking for answers on defense, and that could mean finding new players ready to contribute. Linebacker Palaie Gaoteote IV, defensive tackle Tyleik Williams and defensive back Andre Turrentine all had their black stripes removed following Tuesday’s practice, per the team’s social media posts. That is the rite of passage by which the coaching staff declares players to have officially become Buckeyes. Gaoteote and Williams played a handful of snaps apiece in Saturday’s 35-28 loss to Oregon. Turrentine has yet to see the field. He and Williams are true freshmen, while Gaoteote is a grad transfer from USC who finally received an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA last week.
