COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jesse Mirco’s family and friends stayed up past midnight in Australia last Saturday to watch Ohio State football’s punter make his Ohio Stadium debut. The crowds are among the 24-year-old Australian freshman’s favorite things about college football so far. The Buckeye fans gave him two big ovations when his punts were twice pinned at the 1-yard line. Back home, crowds maxed out around 10,000. When he wasn’t on the field for punts or holding for Noah Ruggles’ field goals and point-after tries, Mirco absorbed an atmosphere unlike any he had experienced before. “A few big third downs we had over the weekend, which the student section was going crazy, which is pretty cool to see,” Mirco said. “So yeah, just try and take it all in.” Mirco began playing Australian Rules Football at age 4.
