
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three observations from Ohio State football’s 59-7 win over Akron on Saturday. 1. Head coach Ryan Day made a significant adjustment to the offensive game plan on Saturday that allowed his true freshman quarterback to succeed. Kyle McCord’s first three passes as a college football player were nowhere near the wide receiver they were intended for. The play call was aggressive, but the execution was unproductive. Instead of building on a 12-yard run from TreVeyon Henderson to start the game, the offense settled for a three-and-out. McCord was sporadic and out of control which is understandable. He’s a true freshman playing in his first game. He needed to calm down and get comfortable, and it was Day’s job to make that happen.
