
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Playmakers keep showing up in Ohio State football’s secondary. Denzel Burke picked off a Noah Vedral pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown Saturday, extending the Buckeyes’ lead over Rutgers to 14-0. Vedral overthrew Bo Melton, and Burke made a jumping grab before following his blockers to the end zone. Burke joined a club that keeps adding members every week. Cameron Martinez returned an interception for a touchdown against Tulsa on Sept. 18. Ronnie Hickman did this same last week against Akron. That makes three pick-sixes in as many weeks for a defense that has begun to find its footing thanks in part to the play of dynamic young talents. Martinez actually might have had another pick-six on Rutgers’ opening drive. The Scarlet Knights tried a fake-punt pass at midfield, and he settled for a pass breakup to force a turnover on downs.
