Ohio State football has the nation’s most prolific offense, and its backfield is the engine


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football boast the most productive offense in the country through five games, and its backfield leads the way. The Buckeyes average 555.6 yards per game, leading second-place Pittsburgh by 1.2 yards. At that rate, they would easily eclipse the Big Ten record of 535.7 Ohio State set in 2018. More impressively, Ohio State also leads the nation in yards per play (8.57). Coastal Carolina (8.41) is the only other offense averaging more than 7.6 yards per play. Within that prolific production are some individual efforts that rank among the nation’s best: • TreVeyon Henderson’s 9.44 yards per game rank second nationally among players with 50 or more attempts. Only Eastern Carolina’s Keaton Mitchell (9.57) ranks higher. They are also the only players with four runs of 40 or more yards.
