Yet, that 15-year period from 2002 through 2016, in which Ohio State won two national championships, also included several years under Urban Meyer. © Provided by Trojans Wire Fickell was the Buckeyes’ co-defensive coordinator and linebacker coach under Tressel — 2005 through 2010 — and later under Meyer from 2012 through 2016. The 2011 season was Fickell’s baptism into head coaching. He became a one-year interim stopgap after Tressel stepped down due to NCAA scandals, setting the table for Meyer to come to Columbus in 2012. Under Meyer, Ohio State won the national title in 2014, the first year of the College Football Playoff. One of the linebackers Luke Fickell coached in that championship season was Joshua Perry.
