Following Ohio State’s loss to Oregon on Sept. 11, defensive tackle Haskell Garrett stood in front of the questioning media at Ohio Stadium and explained his postgame message to his teammates. He detailed standing up in the locker room and stated that despite an upset loss at home, the 2021 season wasn’t over. Garrett ended his quote with an interesting comparison. “They did in ‘14, we can do it in 2021.” These words, of course, are referring to the Buckeyes’ 2014 season when, under head coach Urban Meyer, a young team was surprisingly beaten at home in Week 2 of the year at the hands of Virginia Tech. That Scarlet and Gray team got better throughout the season, made the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 seed and won the national championship.
