
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Not long ago, Ohio State quarterbacks thrived by feeding their slot receivers. Back in 2018, Parris Campbell and K.J. Hill combined for 158 receptions from the slot. That production came with an average of 12.2 yards per reception. Dwayne Haskins relied on quick release shots and crossing routes with those two reliable slot men. Garrett Wilson changed the look with his 2020 season in the slot, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba has picked up where Wilson left off. The sophomore currently leads the Buckeyes and ranks fourth among all Big Ten receivers at 19.39 yards per reception. (If you lop off the season opener, he is averaging more than 21 yards per grab over the past four weeks.) By comparison, Wilson averaged 16.37 yards per reception last season.
